Rays of light

Improvisation has always been one of my biggest tools in creating choreographed work. During the past years I have started to gain greater respect towards intuitive moving not only as a tool but also as a form of art itself. This improvisation video is from Spring 2012, inspired by the increasing amount of light at the North of Europe in Spring 2012.

concept and realisation: Tiina Mankki (instant choregraphy, filming, editing, dance)

video lenght: 3:43min

production year 2012

Nature and light are an infinite source of inspiration to my work. Where there is light there soon has to be a shadow, or at least shades of a color. They say everything has already been done within art, and I find all art forms only re-assuring the existence of the universal laws. Yet, we have to be reborn to a new morning, a life cycle, a new discovery or a regular day at work over and over again. That for me is the magic or art - it cannot be tamed. Just like the nature it can be witnessed but not controlled. Art can be understood in abstract ways but it also has the ability to culminate and make a stand. So concrete and obvious but uncatchable like a ray of light.
